With the amount of information going around on the internet today, how can we be sure that our website is kept safe from danger? As you might know, there are dangers that exist on the internet and if we do not pay attention to the security of our website, our information might not be safe. For an e-commerce website that performs numerous transactions every day with purchases of products or services, website security is a very important aspect to ensure the safety of the business. This is because there are many hackers out there that are aiming to steal credit information and use it to their advantage. They might be hackers hired by your competitors to steal information from you. So, it doesn't matter what sort of online business you are running, you need to keep an eye on the security of your website.
There are certain steps that you can take to ensure that the security of your website is well maintained. The key is to change your passwords from time to time so that the hackers cannot hack into your system. They are constantly coming up with new tactics to break into websites but they will not succeed if we change our passwords from time to time. However, we don't have to change our password too often because that might complicate things and it will be worse if we get mixed up and forget our password. There are certain situations that we should change our password and let us see when it should be.
The first situation is to change our password in a certain amount of time. It can be every month, or every 3 months time. Basically, this is to ensure that the hacker will not be able to bypass our security. With the improvement in technology, newer software created by hackers can break into our system easily if we keep on using the same password for a long time. So, we just need to set a reminder in order to remind us to change our password every couple of months and this will ensure the safety of our website.
The second situation is when you fire an employee. We do not know what may be in the mind of a person who has just lost his job. For all we know, he might be angry and want to get back at us. Therefore, he might turn to our competitors and offer them the password into our system. In other cases, they might use their access to do some harm and delete valuable files that can destroy your online business. No matter how small the amount of access that the employee might have, we still need to change the password because if the password is passed to a hacker, it would post a great amount of danger. So, if you sack any of your employees that have the access to your system, change it immediately.
Lastly, it is a common mistake for many online business owner or webmaster to use the same password for all their online accounts. It can be an email or a log in for the control panel or anything else. Many users will only use one password because they are lazy to remember the different password for the different accounts. This is very risky because if the hacker is able to hack into one of the account, he will be able to hack into the rest of the accounts easily. So, it is best to keep separate passwords for different accounts.
In conclusion, it is not difficult for us to strengthen our online security with if we put in a little effort and change our password on a regular basis and use different password for our online accounts. We just need to be more organized and remember it. Keep a small notebook and write all the details in it and make at least 2 copies of it. This way, we can be safe even if we lose one
